St. Patrick's Day Etiquette

St. Patrick's Day Etiquette Dos and Don'ts

March seventeenth is almost here and workers will soon be searching for a little bit of green to ware to the office.  Those really in the spirit may even bake some Irish-inspired treats to share at the office. And others eagerly anticipate green-colored beer at happy hour.

Do

Find something green to ware (such as a tie, broach, socks, pin, or scarf).

Have a St. Patrick’s Day treat – enjoy a baked treat at the office or a green beer during happy hour (after work!).

Adorn your cubicle with a few tasteful decorations.

Don't

Don’t wear a green hat (or bobbling shamrocks, or anything) on your head. Don’t ever wear a hat indoors at the workplace (unless it’s part of a uniform or for safety).

Don’t wear anything asking to be kissed (or anything else inappropriate involving drinking).

Don’t reheat anything made with cabbage in the office kitchen microwave.

No pinching! Don’t touch co-works, clients, or anyone in the office if they forgot to wear green.

Don’t say: Happy St-Patty's Day! St. Paddy’s or St. Patrick’s is fine.
